When AOL bought Huffington Post earlier this week for 300 million dollars; two things popped into my head.  First, I thought what kind of financial cut does Arianna Huffington get in the deal?  And then I thought this could be a good thing for the Latino community.

Now that Arianna Huffington has more money in the bank; maybe she’ll launch a new website section that will focus on the Latino community.  Why not?

Last month, Huffington announced it would soon have a section called “HuffPost Global Black.”  It’s supposed come out in March and offer politics, news, culture, videos, sports through the black experience.

Huffington isn’t doing this alone.  She’s partnered with BET co-founder, Sheila Johnson to make this happen.  Huffington is hoping “HuffPost Global Black” will be the place where African-Americans get their information.

So can a “HuffPost Global Latino” be on the horizon? I’m thinking the extra cash could help persuade Huffington to take a chance.    Maybe she could partner with Latina Magazine or La Opinion Newspaper.

Critics have already made it known that they’re not too enthused about the new African-American venture.  I say give it a chance and see how it works out.  I’m just glad that Huffington has realized that covering the minority communities is good for the news reading public as a whole.

We Latinos have a lot of positive stories to share.  We’re not just about immigration and undocumented workers, even though those issues are important.  I would  like us to have a national news platform where others can see that we do contribute in so many ways to our American society.
